Secretary of Labor Alex Acosta to Resign

On Friday, July 12 Secretary of Labor Alex Acosta announced that he will resign on July 19. Current Deputy Secretary of Labor Patrick Pizzella will become acting secretary until President Trump appoints a permanent replacement to the position. President Trump’s selection will then need to be confirmed by the Senate.

Patrick Pizzella has held a number of roles in the federal government during four different administrations. Prior to becoming the Deputy Secretary of Labor, Pizzella was nominated by President Barack Obama and confirmed by the Senate to serve as a member of the Federal Labor Relations Authority. Pizzella has also held roles in the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Small Business Administration, the Department of Education, and the Office of Personnel Management.
