EEOC Issues Financial Report for Fiscal Year 2019
On November 19, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) released its Fiscal Year (FY) 2019 Agency Financial Report. FY 2019 ended on September 30, 2019. This report measures the agency’s progress towards three objectives laid out in its Strategic Plan for Fiscal Years 2018-2022. These objectives are:
- Combat and prevent employment discrimination through the strategic application of EEOC’s law enforcement authorities;
- Prevent employment discrimination and promote inclusive workplaces through education and outreach ;
- Achieve organizational excellence.
EEOC has taken a number of steps towards meeting these strategic objectives, which are detailed in the report. The agency secured more than $486 million for victims of discrimination in the workplace for constituents in the private sector, employees and applicants of local and state governments, and employees and applicants of the federal government. EEOC resolved 173 merit lawsuits and “…achieved favorable results in approximately 95% of all district court resolutions.” The agency also hosted 3,800 education, training, and outreach events attended by more than 295,600 people in FY 2019. Additionally, EEOC continued its efforts to enhance its online capabilities including expanding its Public Portal to public sector constituents.
